Astrological Zodiac Signs at a Glance — and What Your Signs Say About You
Ever wondered what your astrological zodiac sign says about you? Well, it’s a little more complicated than knowing what sign correlates with your birth date. In fact, if you calculate your full birth chart, you’ll get a lot more detail about how the celestial bodies aligned at your time of birth.
If you’re just getting started, we recommend understanding the “Big Three” — your Sun, Moon and Rising zodiac signs. So, what are those, exactly?
- Sun Sign: If you know your sign, it’s likely that you actually know your sun sign, namely because it’s the easiest to figure out and corresponds to the day you were born on. Just look up the date ranges (listed below) and you’re set. It’s said that your sun sign represents your core self.
- Moon Sign: Your moon sign indicates where the moon was at the time of your birth. Moreover, it’s said to represent your inner self or emotional nature.
- Rising (or Ascendant) Sign: This one is calculated by determining which sign appeared on the Eastern horizon at your time of birth. It’s said that your rising sign is the mask you wear when you present yourself to people.
Want to know more? We’re delving into the traits most commonly associated with each of the 12 signs. As an added bonus, we’ll provide some date ranges to help you figure out your Sun Sign. Sounds thorough, right? Well, this was written by a Virgo.
Aries (The Ram): March 21–April 19
A true fire sign, Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, which takes its name from the god of war. Aries tend to love both competition and action, excelling in everything from work to sports. Their fiery nature also makes those born under Aries quite passionate, courageous, enthusiastic, and confident.
On their off days, however, Aries have to work a little harder to control their impatience, moodiness, and temper. There’s nothing an Aries hates worse than inactivity, which can occasionally lead them to make impulsive decisions.
Taurus (The Bull): April 20–May 20
Taurus is an earth sign, so it’s no surprise that people born under it are very grounded and reliable. A Taurus tends to be the level-headed one in any group, as those around them are drawn to their patience, stability, and responsible nature.
Notorious lovers of beauty, Taurus are drawn to the finer things in life. At their best, they are devoted and practical — but they can also be stubborn, uncompromising, and resistant to change.
Gemini (The Twins): May 21–June 21
Much like their twin symbol, a Gemini can almost seem like two people in one. Ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, they tend to be very witty and sociable. At the same time, they’re also deep thinkers who want to experience everything — all at once.
Eternally curious and fascinated by the world, Geminis are very friendly, adaptable, and eager to exchange ideas. But their trademark duality also contributes to some struggles, which include restlessness, indecisiveness, and a tendency to be impulsive, especially when bored.
Cancer (The Crab): June 22–July 22
As a water sign, Cancers are very intuitive and have a deep emotional range. The average Cancer is sensitive, sympathetic, and highly imaginative. Easily able to empathize with the emotions of others, Cancers are also very loyal to those they love, but may initially find it challenging to open up to new people.
At their best, they can be very persuasive, caring, and protective. But, at their worst, Cancers can be oversensitive, which tends to lead to bouts of moodiness, insecurity, or a tendency toward manipulation.
Leo (The Lion): July 23–August 22
Like their symbol, the Lion, Leos are natural leaders. They’re easily embraced by those around them due to their creative, cheerful, and dynamic nature. Confident, warm-hearted, and generous, Leos tend to excel in whatever they choose to put their energy toward.
Their passionate and loyal energy makes them hard to resist — though they must be careful. Often, there’s a fine line between a Leo’s best qualities and their negative ones, which include arrogance, stubbornness, and, on occasion, laziness.
Virgo (The Virgin): August 23–September 22
Virgos are all about reason — to the point that they sometimes have a hard time allowing their emotions to interfere with logic. Hard-working and practical, they usually have a very systematic approach to life that makes them brilliant analysts.
At their best, they are kind, intelligent, and down-to-earth. However, they also have a tendency to be overly critical of others and must be careful when it comes to avoiding “workaholic” tendencies.
Libra (The Scales): September 23–October 23
It’s no surprise that Libras share their sign with justice, as they are passionate about fairness and equality for all. As air signs, Libras are charming, social, and gracious, often finding it easy to get along with others due to their open-minded nature.
Their sense of diplomacy makes them excellent at debating, although they’ll go to almost any lengths to avoid confrontation. Since they love harmony and hate being alone, Libras make great friends. However, they can also be indecisive, self-pitying, and good at holding grudges.
Scorpio (The Scorpion): October 24–November 21
With emotions that run deep, Scorpios tend to be very passionate, intense people. At times, they come across as mysterious, but they’re also often intensely determined and loyal to the people they care about. And even though they love to experience a wide range of emotions, Scorpios usually exude calm, cool auras.
Resourceful, brave, and powerful, they make great leaders and are unafraid of being assertive if needed. On their off days, Scorpios have to watch out for their tendency to be secretive, jealous, or untrusting.
Sagittarius (The Archer): November 22–December 21
The adventurer of the group, Sagittarius loves travel and new experiences. Like other fire signs, those born under Sagittarius are generally extroverted, curious, and obsessed with finding the meaning of life. They often have a great sense of humor and an optimistic outlook, which easily draws in new friends.
Sagittarius has no problem embracing change. Moreover, they love discussing new ideas and live for thrills. But that love of freedom can make it hard for them to commit to long-term relationships. Moreover, they may struggle with impatience and come across as overly blunt.
Capricorn (The Goat): December 22–January 19
If you’re looking for a responsible influence, look no further than a Capricorn. True earth signs, Capricorns are very disciplined and self-controlled, making them highly reliable and logical. They’re often also very traditional, ambitious, and focused.
A Capricorn’s serious nature makes it easy for them to achieve whatever they put their minds to — yet they must be cautious of coming across as overly cold, condescending, or pessimistic.
Aquarius (The Water Bearer): January 20–February 18
As air signs, those born under Aquarius love to use their minds and don’t sit well with boredom. They’re generally deep thinkers, highly intelligent, and capable of relating to all kinds of people. At times, Aquarians can be quite energetic, but they also need to withdraw in order to recharge.
At their best, they love helping people, having fun with friends, and engaging in interesting conversations. On their off days, they can come across as aloof, detached, and unpredictable.
Pisces (The Fish): February 19–March 20
As water signs, Pisces are deeply emotional and intuitive people who tend to be very empathetic. Often artistic by nature, they love being creative and are known for their wise, compassionate nature. They’re also very selfless, caring, and altruistic, which translates to a love of helping others.
Pisces’ gentle, understanding energy makes them excellent friends and listeners. On the other hand, their deeply emotional natures can occasionally prove difficult for them to navigate, resulting in over-sensitivity or a desire to escape reality.
